Black History Month is an annual celebration that highlights the history and achievements of the black community. It has been celebrated in the UK since 1987 and was introduced due to the lack of education on black history.

On October 25th 2020, Showtime presented: Black Excellence, an event designed to celebrate black history and amplify local talent in Huddersfield. There was singing, rapping, dancing and spoken word poetry in celebration of Black History Month.

In light of the Black Lives Matter movement, it was then more important than ever to celebrate the cultural influence that black history has had on the UK and throughout the world.

We had a diverse, fun but educational celebration that gave the local community an opportunity to perform and the publicity that they perhaps wouldn’t have got elsewhere.
